A few quick end-of-summer home maintenance tasks.....

How in the world is it the end of summer already!  Here are a few quick things you can do to help your home and avoid more costly repairs as you finish up the summer season.

Check your gutters and downspouts.  Make sure they aren’t clogged with leaves or debris.  The trees will soon begin to lose their leaves, so make sure to check them periodically this fall so they don’t fill up and cause issues.

Take a walk around your house and look for any small holes where a critter might come in for the winter.  Mice can crawl through holes the size of a dime, so look closely and make sure to caulk or fix any of those areas if you don’t want extra roommates this winter.

Is your chimney ready for a winter fire?  It’s always good to have it professionally cleaned and maintained when you haven’t used it for a while.  We once had bees build a nest in ours.  No need to start off your first cozy fall fire with a surprise.

Lastly, it’s a great time to clean your dryer vent and check any smoke detector or carbon monoxide batteries you may have.  The newer units don’t require this, but always good to prevent any issues.
