How to Remove Smells from your Home
We recently had a client ask us about getting rid of some smells that they didn’t like as they move into their new home. This could come in handy if you are looking to sell your home and neutralize any odors to make it more appealing to buyers.
Lauren went to the Old Farmer’s Almanac to see what was recommended. These are low cost, use things you probably already have around the house, and just plain make sense.
The good ole’ almanac says that if you have stale, smelly air you should
1) Cut a lemon in ½ and place the pieces in an inconspicuous place.
2) Or, rub some vanilla on a light bulb. When the bulb is on, the warmth will create a vanilla scent in the air.
3) The easiest and most obvious – open the windows and let in some fresh air When it comes to smelly kitchens or bathrooms, they claim you should use baking soda. You can use it in the fridge, put some in the bottom of a trash can, or mix it with water to use as a cleaning agent. They say that cover grounds also work well to absorb odors. Who knew!?
You can also boil vinegar & water to help clean in the kitchen and bathrooms. When it comes to that stinky garbage disposal, throw some lemon, lime, or orange peels in there and grind them up. I’ve also heard you can put ice chips in the garage disposal.
You can also use baking soda to help with musty carpets or fabrics. Simply sprinkle it on and leave it for a minimum of a few hours. Then vacuum it up & enjoy the fresh scent. It doesn’t always take a major effort or expensive product to make a drastic change in the smell of your home. Next time you need to remove a smell, give these simple tips a try!
