Make sure to protect yourself when selling your home

Lauren talks about another big “no no” as you plan to sell your home. We know how it goes. You are busy, stressed, and often overwhelmed as you are trying to pack things up, move into your next home, keep this one clean, plan for showings – all while typically working full time, possibly managing a family schedule, and everything else within life.

When you put your home up for sale, many people (hopefully) will be walking through for showings and to potentially make offers. As people walk through, they can see whatever you have laying out in your home. This includes your personal information. I was recently at a showing where the Seller left open bills, bank statements, and a credit card on the counter. I’m assuming they didn’t mean to do that, but when you think about the potentially bad things that can happen when people get a hold of that information, it’s pretty scary.

Avoid the risk altogether and make sure your private information is kept that way. Another one that I’ve seen quite a bit are expensive electronics. I’m the kind of person that wants to trust people and believe that no one would ever steal anything. However, I know it happens. If you need those devices, but have to open your home for showings, consider putting them in a lockable safe or getting a duffle bag to take them with you while you leave the homes for showings. Selling can be a hectic time where you’ll have a lot on your mind. Avoid these high risk mistakes.
