Lauren is back again with a few more common things to remember to keep your home in good condition and potentially avoid issues.
Mold can create so many health issues and can also ruin structures in a home. Make sure to run your bathroom fan for 30 minutes after you’ve finished your shower. You can also open a window and make sure to leave the bathroom door open frequently. If the room does not have adequate air flow and thus fills with warm, moist air, you risk creating a mold issue.
Next – check your eavestoughs and downspouts. Keep them clean and clear of leaves, sticks, and other debris. When they clog up, the water does not flow properly away from your house and can create issues with foundations or potentially roofs & soffits.
I found a fun fact for you – did you know that the average home loses about 30% of heat due to drafts? You can reduce this by simply caulking around your windows and doors. Make sure they seal properly and are drafty.
Another one that is so simple but can be costly – during the end of fall and before a frost hits, disconnect your outside hoses, drain the water out and turn off the water supply for your outside faucets. That last part is key. If water sits in them, it can freeze and result in broken faucets – which cost money – and also headaches š
Lastly – and this applies for everyone with a dryer in their home or apartment. Please clean the lint traps in your dryer. Make sure the vent to outside is always clear and not clogged with lint. If they become clogged, they can cause fires or carbon monoxide poisoning. Not to mention – your dryer will run a lot more efficiently and last longer if you keep it clean.
