Simple options to keep your house warm this winter!

There are some super simple things that you can do to keep your heating costs down and your loved ones warm.  The first is to use a programmable thermostat.  They recommend a temp of 68 during the morning and early evening hours with a temp of 60 during the day and nighttime.

If you have a fireplace, make sure the flu is closed when you are not using it.  The warm cozy fires feel amazing, but if you leave the flu open when it’s not in use, you are letting a ton of warm air out of your house. 

Another simple option is to move your furniture away from vents, heat registers and radiators.  Let the warm air flow through the house instead of blocking it off.

You can also close doors to rooms that are not being used frequently to help keep the heat in the main areas of the home.  If you have drafty doors, you can install a door sweep or use a towel or fabric door stop to keep drafts out. 

If you have drafty windows, buy those cheap plastic kits to insulate your windows.  This can make a huge difference for around $15-$20.  You can also use thick fabric drapes to help keep the cold out & heat in.  Close your drapes in the evenings when it’s dark out.
