Winter is a great time for home improvement projects!

Winter can be a great time to take care of some home improvement projects.  There are some definite benefits to doing projects at this time of year.

One benefit can be the availability of contractors to help with a project.  As the weather changes, many contractors schedules are less busy.  You may be able to get a quicker turnaround or event a better rate as they look to finish out the year strong.  There are also weather dependent projects – like a roof for example – if you stay in touch with the contractor, you may be able to get a great discount on a roof install on a warm fall day.

As we find ourselves inside more this time of year, give your favorite room a fresh coat of paint.  It’s inexpensive and can drastically change the look and feel of a room. 

It’s also a great time to refurbish some furniture or woodwork.  You can set up a station in your basement and take the time to sand and refinish doors or trim – maybe a kitchen table or some wall shelves.  Refurbishing can be time consuming – and we usually have more time indoors in the winter making it a perfect option.

Add a backsplash in your kitchen if you don’t have one – it freshens the room and completely changes the room.  There are options from painted backsplashes, to peel & stick, to tile and more.  You’ll find an option that fits with your décor and comfort level for projects.

Updating some flooring is also wonderful.  Go for some luxury vinyl planks, maybe some new carpet.  There are a ton of holiday sales on materials that you can take advantage of.

Spend time with your loved ones this holiday season – but don’t forget that winter can be a great time for some quick updates to your home!
